During the Warring States period, the State of Qi took advantage of the young heir apparent of Zhao and attacked. Zhao sought aid from Qin, and Qin consort Luoxia asked the Regent to send Chang'an, the heir apparent, as a hostage to the Qin court. Cuidi refused the condition for borrowing troops and wanted to find another wise man to save the country. Ma XingTian recommended Xia Qingyun and his son, Ruolong. Although Xia Qingyun played the sword and sang wildly, he was appreciated by the Palace Master and was appointed as the Supreme General. On the day of the assembly, the King of Qin coveted the beauty of the Palace Master, but Cuidi gave Qingyun a guqin and sword as tokens of love. After the King of Qin's victory, he forced the Palace Master to marry him. When Qingyun saw the Palace Master performing a song before the feast, he stormed into the gathering place. To protect Qingyun's life, Cuidi demoted him three times, making him a spear bearer. When it was time to send the Palace Master to the King of Qin for the wedding, Qingyun finally learned the truth of Cuidi's betrayal and bid her a painful farewell with the Zhao knot. Later, he regained his confidence and, with the help of Qin consort Luoxia, who turned against the king, fought bravely and defeated the King of Qin, rescuing Cuidi. The two countries made peace, and Qingyun and Cuidi finally became a couple.
